Alpine cva-1004 Indash DVD player

Ok, this is probably a retarded question but I dont know jack **** when it comes to this. I want to get an alpone cva-1004 indash cdplayer/dvd I was wondering if you just put the dvd into the HU and it will play or do you have to put a dvd player in the car and run it to the HU? please help!!! The Alpine CVA-1004 is an AM/FM headunit with a screen. In order to play DVDs and even CDs for that matter, you need to get a seperate player and run it to the headunit.
