Alpine CDE-9846

I just bought a 9846 from Best buy and I needed a remote because this model doesn't actually come with one. I read online that the RUE-4202 alpine remote is supposed to work with my model of deck. I ordered it and when i got it its not working. Do i have to program the remote or something? Any help would be greatly appreicated.

I had already put batteries in the thing. I replaced them just to make sure they weren't bad and its still not working. I'm beginning to think this remote doesn't work with my head unit. grrrrr.
