Review of Head Unit:
I have 3 Alpine HU's... a CDA-9886, a CDA-117, and a CDE-102. I love all 3 HU's, but I am reviewing the CDE-102 because it is my newest HU.
I paid $99 for the CD player, and $20 for the quick connect Ipod cord. The unit itself is made for Ipod/Iphone, so it supports charging on most Ipods with the cable. It also has a front USB, and a 3.5mm auxillary input jack. Other features include front and subwoofer 2v preouts, and an adjustable HPF at 60, 80, and 100 hz. The unit itself has 22x4 watts RMS power, and right now it is playing through the stock premium Ford speakers. I start to get distortion with the volume around 14, but it plays very clean and clear up to the clipping point. Once I upgrade to a compset and subwoofer on a 4 ch. amp, I will report more. As stated, this is the third Alpine HU I am currently using, it is also the lowest level, lowest cost unit of them all... it is in a work vehicle, so it will only be powering the most basic of set ups. For the money, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better sounding, more feature packed HU then the CDE-102 ... big thumbs up to Alpine on this unit!
