Alpine CDA-9887 Volume Question

Not sure if I have all the settings right, but the volume is a bit weird on my 9887. I have all four speakers running off of an amp.

When the volume is at:

15 - Can barely hear any music

20 - Huge jump and the music is at a reasonable listening volume

30 - Music is cranked up loud and sounds really good.

31 - Music is still cranked, but the speakers will clip. The speakers will clip at 30 too on certain songs with certain bass frequencies.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but it seems as though there's not much different between 15 and 30... and what's the point of having 1-14 if you can't hear shit while it's on that?
