Alpine CDA-9855 2004 Equivalent

I was wondering, what is the deck that would be the equivalent of the 2005 Alpine CDA-9855 for the 2004 series? The reason I ask is that I want one JUST like the CDA-9855, but without that glidetouch stuff, and I understand that was introduced just this year.

thats what the remote is for //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
But the remote doesn't get you into the menu and enable you to navigate through that though, does it?

Besides, I personally think I would be better the spend less money to get a product that I don't need a remote to operate while driving.

thats why you tune it for the music type, save it in the user presets, and repeat for other music types. User presets are accessable with the remote.

Than why are you asking for an Alpine?

My current alpine doesn't requre that I have the remote to use it while driving... and I am very happy with it, but I would like something new, thats why I want another alpine...

9835
but it is considered by many a much better HU than 9855

beyond the glide touch what is really different between the 9855 and 9835? and by different i mean SIGNIFICANTLY different. looking at the specs on alpine's website it seems as though it is practically the exact same player. i've also read a lot of people's opinions (who have no strong attacthment to either unit) say that the SQ, which of course is subjective, is the same on both players.

i've never owned any alpine and the only alpine that i've played with is the 9855. at first i didn't like the glidetouch, but after giving it a second chance, i found it easy to use and its flaws seem to be overexaggerated. though i admit, it might be completley different in a car, but i have a feeling most people on these forums bash it and probably have never even used it.

that being said, i'm waiting for the CES show in early January to see what everyone has to offer, but the 9855 is a fine unit from my perspective.

semantics aside, you know what i meant. certain people perfer a certain sound...and from what i've read, the sound processed through the 9855 is virtually unchanged from the 9835. i see a lot people get down on the 9855 and yet they only complain about the glidetouch.

not trying to pick a fight, but have you actually compared both units? if so, how was the 9855 much worse?

anything audio is subjective, period.

i think what he is talking about are the few threads that tried to define SQ, that being: SQ is determined by how accurate the original song, or orignal material is reproduced.

either way, all i meant was from what i've read and researched, the 9855 and 9835 produce a very similar sound. so i don't understand how the 9835 could be so much better than the 55...unless we are talking about ergonomics and cosmetics which is debatable.
