Alpine CDA- 9851R headunit memory problems

hi everyone, i'm to this forum & my 1st postie other than introduction as newbie,i'm in uk, i have Alpine cda-9851R headunit,which is also a swingface, when i remove the face & later put it on the headunit it wipes the memory ,settings like bass/treble radio stations presets are wiped out, i've been told that when the face is off the deck has memory chip that remembers settings,& it may need replacing?? but i dont know for sure, other than this its a fantastic unit, i also run alpine mp3 6cd changer & alpine under seat subwoofer with customfit pioneer 6x8s spekers .impressing sound quality. can someone help or lead me in the right direction.regards. yunii
