alpine cda-9835 crossovers...question

can i not use passive crossovers with a custom component setup and just use the crossovers in the cd player instead. I read in an old thread that I could do this to run an active setup. Could you guys give me some input?

You've got the 3 way setting with the 9835 but I don't know if that would protect you good enough from damaging your tweeter. I would just run the correct passive crossover as its designed and set you hu crossover appropriately. My 9835 is set on 2 way as I could not get the 3 way to sound the way I wanted.

The 3 way setting does have a setting for the highest frequencies, but I'm still not certain you can do what you are wanting with just the 9835 crossover. Hopefully others will chime in.
