Alpine 9887R

Hi Guys, first post so be gentle :S

Ive had the alpine cda9887r for almost a month now, its all good and im really happy with it apart from one thing thats bugging me - the colour schemes.

Although the unit can show red, green, orange and blue for each button / dial. There appear to only be 5 presents of combinations, so if i want orange buttons on a orange background i cant have it, only orange on a red background.

Is there anyway around this to customise the colour schemes?

Thanks!

First.. Welcome from NC, in the US. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just within the last week or so we're finally seeing the US version CDA-9887 available. It will probably end up in my car.

I doubt seriously there's a work-around without some extensive internal modification, if it can be done at all. The unit is short on visual customizing in trade for sound-quality and tuning capability.

Other than display shortcomings, how pleased are you with the build quality, sound, etc?

Sound quality is absolutely fantastic, build quality is solidand its not gone wrong in any way.

I've yet to get it 'tuned' for my car using the 'imprint' technology as this wont be available for a few months im told, other than that its spot on.

The only tiny thing i've noticed is that there is so much technology crammed into it that there is a little fan in the back of the unit which i've never had in any other unit.

Its not a problem though as the only way you're going to hear it is with volume set to 1, with your head next to the unit, and in a stationary or well soundproofed car.

Good to hear..

Yeah those cooling fans I think are a regular Alpine design for the internal amps.. Though it will run cooler I imagine if you're using external amps and have the internal amps disabled.

This deck is getting as much hype as the Pioneer 880PRS and the Eclipse 7100 before it's out in circulation. For those of you whom are getting your hopes up I sure hope it delivers.

Read a few reviews sofar.. The imprint tool is a big deal to tuning the 9887 well.. Takes a lot of the pain out of getting it perfect. I'm still considering the H650 processor instead because the tool comes with it, and it can go from car to car.. though not convinced if it can rival either the 880, cd7100 or 9887 because of how it works off of speaker level ins. Depends on I guess how well guys are doing with the RF 3sixty.2 units as it is a similar OEM processor.

Yeah the on-board 4x60w is def good enough for me. And i have noticed it gets hot, even taking the face-plate off its always warm, although it has been very hot (for us) in south england recently

Funny you mention the colour schemes...

When I was using the store model i noticed that the schemes were really crappy.

Nothing like my 9855 where you could literally choose whatever colour you wanted for the buttons and I think around 5 for the knob.

They didnt even put orange in...wtf kinda crap is that ?

I love the orange knob/button combo on my 7998

Another one from England...

My 9850 does blue or red, but as the buttons are made of blue plasitc the red doesnt look very good. I just treat is as if thats the only colour it does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Orange is there, you just have to have it with a red backlight on the volume knob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

All red and all green look quite good but all orange /all blue would look cool too
