Searched here on the 9886 and didn't see much. If I'm just lookin for a good deck with some eq possibilities the 9886 and 9887 have the exact same 5 band peq or 7 band graphic right?

The 9886 looks like it has the same direct ipod control and also has the crossover capabilities to go active, time correction, etc.

What does the 9887 give extra for the price?

well the 9887 needs imprint to adjust bass and treble (from the reviews i read on crutchfield) does the 9886 need it too???

i am also trying to decide on one of these HU.

sorry if this is a hijack.

i have an elcipse 8445, alpine mrp-f250, mrp-m250 us amps is-2080 ,and is- 2150

i now have a truck so i might get the 9886 (and the power pack amp when it comesout) and then sell the 4 channel alpine amp and then and figure which amp to feed my 10w3v2d2 power at 4 ohms. i think i might stay withe the us amp2150 and give it 500 . does any one have a clue on how much the power pack will cost??

update

just found info on power pack http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/company/pr/pr.php?prid=168&year=2008

i guess i will sell my mrp-f 250 and get the 9886, (i read somewhere i think soundsolutions that the imprint isnt all that, eventhough i might stll get the one for the 9886)

The 9887 doesn't need IMPRINT to adjust anything... the only thing that IMPRINT gives the 9887 is the Auto Time Correction function of IMPRINT technology. The 9886, however, doesn't come with the built-in EQ, and so it needs the IMPRINT hub to access these features. Without IMPRINT, the only thing you can adjust on the 9886 is Bass/Treble Center Frequency. On the 9887, you have full access to either a 5 band Parametric EQ or a 7 band Graphic EQ without the IMPRINT hub.

finally, someone said it.

The 9886 does not have the capability to run active.
And if I remember correctly, the Imprint for the 9887, and the 9886 is a whole different unit.
Yes it does, but not as a standalone.

The two imprints are different.

I love alpine, always been a pioneering spirit in HU/processing etc.
