alpine 9851 settings

I recently upgraded from an alpine 9845 to an alpine 9851... I cannot get the bass I was getting from the old HU. I have 2 re se 12's hooked up to a 9.1, I have basically setup the new HU to match the old HU in settings wise and it just sounds like crap. The only time I can get anywhere near the bass I was use to getting is byt turning on the BBE that alpine offers. but then I have so much bass in the mids and highs I cannot hear any thing else but bass. Please offer eny suggestions as I am lost at the moment.
