Hey everyone,

I am looking at getting a new headunit for my new car.

I was wondering what everyone thought between these two units..

I know the 9830 is 2004model where as the 9851 is a 2005 model.

But does anyone have any recommendations as which one to go with?

thanks,

where the **** did that kenwood bullshit come from?

...Anyway, the cda-9830 is a good unit, seems to have nice features, maybe a few more than the cda-9851, but is more expensive.

The 9851 is newer, looks nice and has a more legible display and is cheaper.

but it probaly lacks some quality compaired to the 9830, and some features.

I didn't spend too much time looking at them, but the 9830 seems to a better deck minus the display and price...you get what you pay for. You could probaly find a used 9830 for less than a 9851 new.

Either way, you'll probably be happy with either of the decks.

Edit: the cda 9830 is definitely a higher quality deck.

my raffle won "YAY"

Excelon 789 smoked the 9830 it replaced

it was louder, cleaner and easier to see,the 9830 is all but invisable in daylight

has that Old boring stying

IMO if you really want to go Alpine seek out last years 9833,now thats a killer HU

I’ve been using the 9830 for a month now and think it’s great. Solid and easy to use, but as with any new toy you need to read and understand the owners manual. The remote is very, very handy, you can make changes on the fly. It also has enough power for me. I personally don’t like the buttons on the 9851. The main difference between the two is that the 9830 has 4Volt pre-outs, which is my main reason for purchasing it. None of the 2005 models have it. Check crutchfields for pricing, there clearing them out for $230. As for the display being dim in direct sun light, that’s true but it all depends on what type of car/truck your going to put it in. I have a truck with tinted windows so it’s a non-issue for me.
