Alpine 9811

Guys, after finding out there are no real Eclipse dealers online, and none in my area I'm gonna try to go with either Kenwood or Alpine.

How's the Alpine 9811? Does anyone have it? I'm comparing that to the Kenwood X869. I'm not sure if I want the dual panel thing so I was also looking at the X859.

Any info would be appreciated.

Have you called eclipse to see if there are any dealers or you just haven't seen any? If you haven't called, you can try 1-800-55-eclipse and be automatically connected to the closest dealer.

As for online alpine(everybody seems to sell them), but ikesound seems to have a pretty good reputation.

Thanks, I'll give them a call in a little bit. How much do the 8443's go for? Any idea? Also how much is this Commander thing that allows you to play MP3's? Is it something that plugs in the back or front or what...what the hell is it? Thanks.

The 8443 will retail for $419

The commander advance, along with giving the upper end decks the capability to play mp3s, does voice command and has some kind of a date book in it. The wiring for the commander would run from the back of the head unit. Eclipse has other decks though cheaper than the 8443 that should sound excellent.

The 5423, for example, is a 5 volt/low impedance deck and will retail for $289. Anyway, if you have an eclipse dealer nearby, check them out. you may fall in love with them or you may decide to go with the alpine. Good luck with whatever you buy.

Thanks for the info JL....any idea how much that commander costs? I'm not too worried about money, but just outta curiosity.

Also, is the commander a separate display or is it completely hidden and all of the track info etc. is displayed on the HU. Thanks bro.

I am not sure of the price on the commander(299 or 399 I believe). It is a separate unit, but I think the display is on the deck. I don't know all the info, but eclipse tech support could answer your ???s. You can call them at 1-800-233-2216. They have always been helpful when I have called(and I haven't had a problem getting through to them).

Cool, I'll give em a call. Although with the price of the deck and the commander, I'm probably better off going with an Alpine and putting the money in a 4 channel amp to replace my MACH system in my stang.

If you want mp3 then it is probably cheaper going with the alpine(unless you get one of the eclipse mp3 decks which are kinda no frills, but they should sound very nice).

Yeah, the Eclipse MP3 decks are kinda cheesy looking though. I'll probably just end up with an Alpine at this point. Thanks for all the info, it's appreciated.

Like I said, they are no frills(cheesy to me is more like rampage lol), but eclipses do sound excellent. good luck with your deck.

it'sd just my opion but i'd say alpine, they are very nice. hot one myself. its bottom of the line but it still works real well.

The eclipse e - com cost $299 retail. I also wanted an eclipse but

the face is not detachable. Don't want to have my car stollen again.

IMO, i will just stick with a new alpine HU but now im hearing that

there's some problems with the deck dying in a year or so?

Now im hesitating what brand out there that's reliable.

YOu could also check out a clarion. They make nice stuff. The 835 I am using right now

is a nice deck. That is if you decide to not buy an eclipse. Detachable faces are NO guarantee of safety. I see posts every week from people who have had their detach face decks stolen(with or without face attached).

Can you say if the dxz835mp sounds better than an alpine deck?

Saw the features in the clarion website and called some local shops

asking for $289 for it, same price with the alpine 9811. I need to go

and listen to this deck one of this days.

I haven't heard any 03 alpines yet(but have heard my fair share of them over the past few years). There is an alpine/clarion dealer 2 hours from me(the owner was the local shop's JL rep at one time). Anyway, he was talking to them a couple of months ago, and in his opinion(for what it's worth), clarions sounded better AND had been more reliable for him(he was having some issues with alpine, reliability wise).

I really would check out the clarion 835 though. Clarion doesn't seem to get as much attention on the forums as pioneer and alpine(what I see as the 2 most discussed brands), but they make nice stuff. The local shop has sold clarion ever since they opened(11 years or so), and they have been very pleased with them.

Alpine and clarion should both be relatively easy to find to demo I would think. I have used eclipse decks for many years, and I hadn't heard a deck that I liked better. I had the shop put the 835 in because I couldn't wait for the 8053 any longer(and I may very well go to that deck if and when it ever ships).
