You do know that Alpine released the 7949 as a commemorative model based on the 7909, dont you?

Its nearly the same internals, but it offers a removable face.

The 7909 was a fixed unit with no security features.

Oh well, if I see a 7909 I'll post a link here.

If I remember correctly it had a weak transport or something like that. It was a great deck but it's only real claim to fame was it's 4V output which was unheard of when it came out. You'll get a better performing deck from something more modern now. Have a look at the Clarion DRZ9255 if your wanting one of, if not the best deck being produced now.......performance wise, and similar in looks to that old 7909.

The Clarion is nice, so is the Denon one, but I like the old skool look of the Alpine 1

Well if a high price makes something the best, and you want to "buy the best" you need to find an Alpine F#1 setup.

I saw a complete setup on ebay for $5,000 yesterday.

7909 is a great nostalgic deck. My first CD player back in the day. there are plenty better options now. If going for a top notch nostalgic deck though then knock your socks off.
