alpine 7894 question

Now ive been told to use 10 gauge from the 12 volt wire on the deck to the + batt. Now i think this does not mak sense because it would be on all the time then. I got the harness and will begin the instl today. I am just gonna go the way i know, but i wan to know what this deck to battery issue is all about. That should not be the way to power the internal amp.

it wont be on all the time because the acc wire is what tells it to turn on no matter what.....even when you do it the way you know you will essentially be doing the same thing just with a smaller guage of wire....the point of doing it thsi way is because of the internal v-drive amp that apparently has more current draw then you average deck.....not sure how well i explained that but i tried

Are you going to be using the internal amp to power anything?

If you wire it the way Alpine suggests the 12v power (is it yellow in an Alpine harness like most other manufacturers?) would be connected to the battery and the 12v accessory (red) will be connected to a switched source controlled by the key. This will keep the unit from being on all the time while still retaining your clock, memory presets, and EQ settings.

Edit: Otherwise Dre is right - if you were to connect it using a harness adapter going through the stock wiring behind the dash you'll be doing the same thing Alpine suggests but with smaller gauge wire - the power will still be connected to constant power - it has to be to retain the aforementioned settings and such. Otherwise everytime you turn the ignition off then back on the radio will be at 98.1 FM and the clock will be at 12:00 and the EQ settings will be whatever the factory default is.

what is this switch source conrtolled byt the key. where are they usuallly.

i gues 10 gauge would be the best bet from deck to batt.

they are gonna be powering stock speakers for the time being.

Do i even need to use the internal
