Alpine 12" Type X

Hello,

Just bought my first car so i'm going to be building my first system. So far I had an Alpine iva-d106 headunit installed. It's really nice, flip out tv, ipod connection and can stream videos from the ipod to the TV. sorry, small review.

Anyways, I'm set on getting one alpine type x 12" sub. I have a few questions though. I've searched this forum for info on this sub and almost everyone recommends a sealed box.

I was thinking about getting this box. it's ported. it says it's built to alpine spec. so if alpine spec is a ported box, why are people recommending sealed boxes?

They say it's built to alpine spec. wouldnt it be best to get a box that is built to spec because thats what the company recommends? what are your opinions on this box? is it good quality?

they both say they are port tuned at 32Hz but the dimensions of the boxes aren't the same. which one is better? i'm guessing the one that claims to be built to spec.

ur first link didnt work but if its the one im thinking about,which is the one in my avy,then if you noticed,they say the same for every brand.according to RE_CALCULATOR it wasnt built for my cvx to spec.but it is now after i took out about 13" of the back port.allso in one of the feed backs from mobilesoundworks,a guy said it made his type x slamm

i just looked at all of their 12" boxes and all of them are 30" x 13.5" x 16" and port tuned at 32Hz.

I had a 10" X, put it in a 1 cube sealed box (after reading all the sealed recommendations), and it was a LOW END MONSTER.

Playing Late Nite Tip / Bass I Love You / Hypnotize etc, I have roof flex, side view mirrors would shake.

Never ran it ported, but all the sealed comments are true.

but yea, all the threads i've been reading about the X recommend sealed. so i don't know what to do. i'm most likely just going to get that box on ebay in my first post.

hey man, x's are to only be sealed. If you port it you will be sorry. They are very good SQ subs and sound good off 1000 watts rms. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT PORTING A TYPE X, if you do that then you might as well have bought a type R. And at the very minimum it needs around 2 cubic feet.

yep,same box.if you dont like the way it sounds,you allways could modify the port,its easier than you think.i wasnt happy until i done this.now my shit is loud lol.i figured it to be around 2.4 cubes tuned to 34-36hz.trust me,if it didnt sound good,it would be in the trash

Yeszir, up at 26 and Van Dyke.

You won't be dissappointed with it sealed. It's not a loud sub, but it's very clean, and very very very good at producing low notes.

you don't port X's, if your going to port an alpine sub then you might as well get a type r. They can both handle 1000 rms easily.

Like I said i'm new to car audio. based on the recommendations, i'm going to go with a sealed box. What would be the best specs for this box? i'm going to take this info and have someone build it for me.

Nevermind, found the manual online. Optimum sealed box specs are

14.5" x 14.5" x 11.75"

36Hz, 0.94

Can anyone recommend a box builder?
