Almost died unhooking amp the other day

I was hit by 480 once. In one arm, through my chest, and out the other arm. Still no clue why it didn't kill me. Did knock me off the ladder though.

Oh and, you guys know better than to insult other members in the tech sections. Keep your replies respectful, or dont post at all.

Expected: "The stick propping up hatch slipped and hatch fell on head", "Did not realize the car was in neutral and it ran me over", or "Lion attacked me from behind"

Did not expect: "12v arc"

Glad to hear you are ok //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah how did a ground shock you? Somethings not adding up here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I know a guy that got hit with what they said was 600+ volts.. Needless to say he still cant walk after about 2 years and he doesnt look so hot after all the skin graphs etc over 75% of his body. LUCKY as hell he survived

12VDC can kill you. Its the amperage that will kill you not the voltage. It only takes like 1 amp to stop your heart. That's why a taser doesn't kill. Its 20,000 volts but only .01 amps. If you don't think it won't kill bridge the battery terminal in your car with a wrench and hold on it. Can you say defibulator. The guy that got hit with 480. He wasn't totally grounded on a ladder. It was prob a fiberglass ladder. If it was steel he wouldn't be here. Been there done that.

You guys still don't understand how electricity works. I know everyone runs around saying "It's the amperage not the voltage" but that doesn't mean that 1V will kill you if you grab the terminals. The voltage has to be high enough to overcome the resistance of your skin/body which is quite high. If you don't believe me, just go grab each terminal of your battery with each hand, oh jeez, not a damn thing happened? But in a dead short that battery is capable of producing hundreds of amps, so if it's the amperage how is this possible? The voltage is too low //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

That being said, I did stick a screwdriver into a terminal holding one of a three phase 480 power line and yeah, that felt pretty good...haha
