So im now brand new to Eclipse as I have only ever run alpine. Always heard great things about Eclipse so I picked up a cd 5441 for the GF and the AVN 7000 for myself. Installed the 5441 and all is well but not too great in the display apearence but sound alot better. no biggy! No on to my prob. I couldnt wait to install my AVN 7000 so I quickly hooked up the red(power), yellow(acc) and black(ground) and had all wire bare and trying to keep them all away from each other. Well the worst happened and the power and ground touched for like 10 second and I heard some sparking or whatever sound is made and spelled the worst smell of electronics. I disconnected and just hoped that maybe it would still be alright. NOPE! I hooked it to some power today and nodda. No power and in the right rear corner of the unit on the bottom gets hottt in a spot and smells with power to it. I need to know if there is anything I can do myself? Also I would like to know where I can send this to have it repaired. I have no prob footing the bill $$ as I am the dumbass who did it. Please get back to me guys cuz I really want this bad boy running again!

I wouldnt say im a pro but I have soldered here and their and think im can pull it off when the need be. Why what did you have in mind. Do you think you can help me help myself out or even suggest someone or some company that can?

Well although it WAS extremely dull headed it wasnt like a whole 10 sec but they did mesh for a few and there is NO power now and a burning smell and its gets hot on one portion of the bottom corner so something is f***** up. I do not care what this costs me as I need the repaired. Any other suggestions anyone?

UPDATE!! So I called united radio and they told me that they would just end up sending it to the Eclipse head office in CA. So I was about to do that but I asked eclipse if there was a repair center here in Canada since that where I live. They told me the main repair center is in Scarbouro ONT so I will be sending it there in the morning. Its sound like the little mistake is gonna cost me $$. That will teach me. Now for one more question for when it is fixed. The wire that says "speed" im guess has to tie into the speed senor wire. I do NOT however know where that would be so maybe someone with the same unit might be able to assit me? Thanks again!

Come on guys!! No one in here can help a newbie out? I have just started to these forums and have had great responses on all the questions I have had. Please dont let me down guys ?

you dont have to wire the speed sence wire, it should be ok with out it.

if not, call eclipse tech, they should help you locate the wire.

Ok I bought the deck off of a buddy so Im not too sure where is was purchased but our friend who is an installer for JBL installed it and un-installed it. Secondly the vehicle is a 03' Dakota 4x4. My buddy told me that the speed sense wire is so that the icon on the navigation moves while your truck does and tells you where to make your turn etc. Has anyone installed one of these and NOT hooked it up?

You dont need to hook the speed sensor wire up, it will still show the vehicle moving on the display. The only thing that will happen if its not hooked up is it will occasionally say check speed sensor on the screen when nav is on. I think the speed sensor is so it will give you a more accurate reading, but mine was always right on without the speed sensor wire.

OK great thanx! ONe more! For the vid bypass, should I just ground out the parking brake wire or is it more difficult like alpine where you need a toggle switch?
