air movement

the lower the tuning the more air displaced by the sub. On my 10" soloX I originaly had it in a box tuned at 38 then moved it down to 32 and there was a considerable difference in the amount of air moved and the amount of rattling of my truck.

did you like the lower tuning better mine is going to be 31hz

 
How do you like the 1008?
I will be picking up the 1008 tomorrow actually but the box I had built for it did not come in today so it will be after christmas break before it is hooked up(going home for the holidays).

On my personal application I did not like the lower tuning. Kicker recommends 40hz tunning on the soloX and I must say it sounded much healthier at 38hz than 32. That being said the box for the 1008 is tuned to 31.5hz so it varies from sub to sub as to weather they like lower tuning or not. It definately shook the truck at 32 but sounded like crap on the higher notes.

i big part of air movement is not only the tuning frequency, but the characteristics of the port itself. port A could be 100 sq inches, 18 inches deep, tuned to 36Hz, port B 75 sq inches of port, 14 inches deep, also tuned to 36Hz, but port B will actually move more air than port A. Go too small, and it is choked off too much. Trial and error FTW!
