I'm in the market for an air compressor. My budget is about $300, maybe more if it comes with some decent tools. I won't be powering any heavy duty tools with it, just nailers, maybe an air sander. I'd like for it to be available at sears, lowes, or home depot, i don't want to have to order this thing.

anyone know of any good deals or anything?

what kind of air sander? some of them use alot of air. Nailers just need a compressor to hit like 100lbs, unless you are stapling the hell out of something back to back to back. I've sanders that use as much as 9cfm of air and that needs a pretty big compressor to keep up

Any sander grinder drill will require alot of cfm.If you are even planing on running one of these you will need at least a 30gal with probably a 5-6 hp motor to get you the volume you need.If you are just doing some nailing and other misc. things you could get a smell 3-4 gal.

Go shopping.

Look at the cfm ratings of the tools you want to use.

Spraying type things are rated at 40psi, and most of the serious tools (nailers, wrenches, sanders) are rated at 80 psi. So when you go look at a compressor make sure that the 80psi cfm rating on the compressor is close (or greater than) that which you will require.

Get a quiet one.

The single-stage compressors for low-CFM usage like nailers etc....really drive ya nuts when you try to use a ratchet, inflate tires, etc, sounds like a lawnmower. There are a few belt-drive single stages that are quiet, but you will thoroughly enjoy the quietness of a belt driven compressor...take a look at the Kobalt's at Lowes or even the Craftsmans...search around and you will thank yourself later.

Once you have a decent compressor, you WILL add to it, and the added CFM is a plus.
