AGP Video card?

I want to put a little life back into my rig, but I don't want to spend a lot of money, nor do I want to go all out with a PCI-e rig, since it would require a new processor and RAM with the card. So I've got about $100 to spend, and I can't find any side by side comparisons..

What would you pick, given the options: 512MB Geforce 6800XT or 256MB Geforce 7300GT?

U got money... wanna buy my Ti 4200 for 40 shipped? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If they're the same price, I'd probably get the 6800 XT assuming it uses 256-bit memory ...
I would probably choose the 6600 GT, 7600 GS or X1650 Pro, though, as they'll provide better gaming performance than either of those cards and aren't much more money last I checked. Actually, the 6600 GT can be found for under $100 lately, although their stock is in short supply being a discontinued model.

There are, of course, better AGP cards, but given your computers specs, you won't really see much benefit in the higher-end cards unless you overclock your CPU/RAM or you game at SXGA+ (1440x1050) or WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or higher ...
Hey now, don't underestimate the Barton Core. It's old, but still packs a punch. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I've gone through everything from being outbid on 7800gs' on ebay to putting out $195 for a Winfast 7600gt (The AGP card to own). But in the end, I think you're right. I don't have the hardware to make good use of it and since 1024x768 is "high res" in my book I hardly need more than what I originally planned. (Yes, Jmac, I know calling 1024 x 768 "high res" probably gave you a seizure, sorry.)

Anyway I ordered the EVGA 7600 GS off newegg. It's coming soon.

bballrrt06: That was pretty useless. I'm getting an Nvidia card because they have better Linux drivers and usually run cooler.

AJ: Sorry, no need for it. I got a GF3 TI 200 in my rig right now, the other PC has a 6200 that's been unlocked to an underclocked 6600, and the third machine is better off with a PCI or ISA video card. =)
