aeroport?

Was just reading some about this and wondering, does this port work just as well/Same as a slotted? Also, would the box be smaller than using a sloted? Basically, i need to build a ported Box for my XXX 12", but want to try and make it small as possible, or at least a perfect fit, and a sloted port sure takes up a bunch of space, will a round aeroport be the same? or will that just be more SPL and less SQ? or will it even make a Diff in size if the port has to be a certain lenth? Or perhaps using 2x or more ports beable to get me the recommended ported box size without wasting much space like with a slotted?

Thanks in advanced.... sorry if it is covered elseware, i did a search here first //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yes the box would be smaller if you went with aero. basically an aeroported box is erm a sealed box with tubes in it. and what ive heard an aeroport will sound better because there is no bouncing of the air on surfaces like a slotted.

So its better than a slotted and makes the box smaller, so how come no one uses them? i just find it odd... hehe. Wouldent there be some port noise with a XXX running at like 1600rms?

any good box design apps i could use to deisgn the box with round ports that also specifies how long they should be for tuning to a certain freq? especially using 2 or more since i think it might have to be quite long if i used one? or

you know what... i dont know why pple use slotted a lot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i guess it looks cooler.

but if you use ports with a big enough diameter, or ever 2 ports it should get rid of the port noise. Im usin 2 3" ports in a box for my 12" RL-p.

I use em. I have 2 4" aeroports looking at me as we speak for my new box. reason they are not used by everyone is

1) Aeroports cost $15ea plus shipping, slots cost leftover mdf

2) some people just like the look of slotted better

3) tuning, a sloted port can run around the box and Aeroport needs a deeper box to get the same tuning.

and the bigger the box the smaller the ports can be for instance Im tuning to 40hz 2 x 4" aeroports are less than 8" each in mu 4cu.ft box the same tuning for a 2 cuft box is like triple the length

or longer. you can put them on the sides too

yes but you need clearance from the back of the sub to the port so dont run it behind it unless you have plenty of clearance between thge port and the sub or your not taking full advantage of the area in the box.

Nice, if i used 3-4 of them could i reduce the lenth? just looking for options so when its time to make the box a nice fit for the trunk, i'll know what i can do and cant //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i'm trying to not make it too deep though... but i do have about 18.5" in hight to make the box if it will compensate for the depth, i know i got to make sure there's room for the sub too though, just trying to get it under the 20" deep specs for ported on RE's site...

Also, where do i find into on tuning them anyways? i guess that would help with my options...

Thanks! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

No, thats not true. Adding ports does not reduce the length like you would think it would. Actually to keep the tuning the same, you have to make each aeroport longer for each one you add. I currently have 2 4" aeroports in my box and there is not any port noise. I reccomend using at least 2 ports if your doing aeroports. Just make sure to sand the edges to a rounded edge inside the box and it will be alright....One more advantage to aeroport is that the tuning of the box can be changed if you just change the length of the tube.

yea the more ports you want to use the longer the ports have to be. you can calculate the aeroport lenght at http://www.maximacar.com

Thanks, i might use aeroports and also invert the XXX, in some sorta decent looking design...

Could Curving the areoports help squeez in the lenth? i have no idea how i would do that, but just a thought, hehe... i could always find out, hehe.

whats the best way to have the ports faced anyway? twoards the back of the trunk? or would having the ports facing UP in the box, on top of it be just the same? I'm thinking twoards the back would be best, but thats only cause i've had better results in the past facing ports/driver twoards the back of the trunk...

to reduce the length reduce your port opening. a single 4" port dont need as much length as 2 4" ports. So a single 3" aeroport wont need as much length as a single 4" Im using 2 4" port but I also have 4cuft of room in my box.
