Aero ports

Almost done building my box just need a couple info. Do aero ports need to be flared on both ends or can I just use a 4" PVC pipe and call it a day? I have access to about 5 different types of 4" PVC pipe(work for landscaping distribution warehouse). If the need to be flared I'll just order this Precision Port 4" Flared Speaker Cabinet Port Tube Kit

Ive ran it both ways..Sounds better with a flare on both ends imo.Leave the inside flat and gets a chuffing sound.At least it did on me.

if you use the flares they measure different at the coupling than normal 4"

I used normal 4" pvc and a bowl and hot oil to make my own.Can also use a heat gun.Ive never used the pre-made stuff.

Yea I've seen the DIY on YouTube were they use a heat gun, how much flare did u add to each end?

flared gives more efficiency while a round port is just a round port. Basically you need more port area per cubic feet when going with a regular round port compared to a flare. If you just want to do round ports, you can use pvc ports or even sonotubes if you need bigger then 6 inches. You can use a heat gun to add flares or with the sonotubes, fiberglass some flares.

So if I need a aero that's 15" long and flared has to be 16" long how to I measure the flared port length

When u did your PVC flares now much did you flare out?

I flared them about 3/4" wider than the diameter on each side of the pipe itself. Used a heat gun, water and metal bowl to make the flares. This helped me.... YouTube video "DIY flared ports PVC"
