adding tweeters - how to power

My head unit has 3 preouts. Two run to my 4 channel Alpine amp which powers two door and two rear speakers. The third preout runs to the basslink.

If I add another amp to power the tweeters - dash or A-pillar not sure yet, how do I wire the 'tweeter' amp? Not purchased yet so we have options.

The Alpine amp has 1 preout that I assume is for a sub amp, but I'm not sure.

Could the Alpine 138BT push enough for a tweeter upgrade? I have a pair of JL Audio 6.5s in the door. Could I upgrade them to a better 2-way speaker and gain more highs?

Thanks for your reply. That's a very subjective question,"why do you want more tweeters." Well, I want more high than what I currently produce. Your tone begs a question by suggesting that maybe I don't need more highs. By adding the amp and basslink recently I gained more volume and bottom end. But now my system seems to be missing that etra bit of high.

Is there a more preferred method that I am missing?

You have coax or componets? Tweeter placement places a huge role. C5s are not known for their output

I have not adjusted the EQ, and this may be my issue. I recently unplugged the ground and this would have the affect of resetting the highs - to a degree. This will be my step #1 .

Coax. and the placement would be factory location, which limits my options quite a bit. Would enough reflection from the windshield make any noticable affect?

make sure the coax you have don't allow you to remove and relocate teh tweeters. if so, that is the correct option and why we don't put tweeters low in doors.

you just need one set up high and aimed more at you. you can power them off the front channels on the 4 channel through a passive crossover. you don't need another amp.

Jus t go with components in the rear instead of coax and most comps come with a crossover. I have comps in the rear and fronts. I have mine set to where the fronts play highs and vocals and the rears play lows and mids. It sounds like I have surround sound the way my hu allows me to soften the mids in the front

i would just run your tweets off the front channels of your amp and put a cap on them or if your buying a new set they should come with crossovers,i understand what your trying to do coaxs are very localized and its hard to move the soundstage up without adding tweets ive seen lots of installs with a coax/tweeters mix

But he is saying his highs aren't that bright, which shouldn't bee the case. I think something may be set up wrong.

Thanks for the replies. I have the gain set about 55% for the front channel. I've tried to read on this, but not sure I found what I was looking for. I'll try adding more gain to the front and see if I realize more high.

The tweets are not removable on this pair of 6.5s. But, you're saying to add a new pair of tweets to the front channel on my 4 channel in line with the 6.5s in the door? Ok.

I feel good about the mids and vocals, but I'm really missing that high tweet in some music - the high hat I believe.
