Hey folks. I have been doing my own car audio for my past several installations. They have always consisted of starightforward wiring, with little or no custom fabrication. I have generally used the stock wiring configurations to route my signal to the speakers.
Currently, I own a 2004, Dodge Neon. I am running an Alpine 9856 which has pre-outs to a subamp (Alpine 600w) and a 4 channel Alpine amp (4 x50w). I recently had to replace a blown Infinity 6x9 n the rear deck. I took the time to finally run speaker wire directly from the amp to the speakers, instead of how I had it before, (pre-out coax to the amp, speaker line then went back behind the headunit to connect to the factory wiring).
Sooooo, on to my questions! I just wanted to give a little background as to my experience and my comfort zone.
I have toyed with the idea of adding component speakers to the front door panels. I currently have some Infinity reference 6.5 coax speakers that are just fine. For a lot less money, I can just add an Infinity tweeter to the 6.5 setup. Is this a good idea? Should I just chuck my perfectly good speakers to jump into the world of components?
The tweeters come with a crossover, but I am unsure how to wire this setup with my exisiting 6.5's. Do I just connect the + and - of the door speaker to the + and - of the cossover network? Any other ideas?
I can get the tweeters on eBay for about $70, but a set of components will cost about $200.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
