Hi guys. I have a stock 2002 Jaguar S type that I'm trying to add a little bass onto. I'm looking at either using what I currently have (punch 200ix and add speaker level inputs) or spending about $125-200 on a sub amp. The car is 100% stock, including charging system and battery setup so I'm not going for anything crazy. I'm looking for right around 500 watts rms. I'll be running my sub setup at 4 ohm for now.
I'm going to be buying a new car in about 9 months to a year, so I'm not going to be spending much money or effort on this car.
I was thinking of picking up a kenwood 9104 for about $160 new or picking up a used alpine pdx-1.600 or mrp m1000. Both of those would be more money than the kenwood, but will also put out more power. Both of those would do better at 2 ohm down the road as well. Obviously the alpines are nicer and put out more power.
Being that they are fused at 80 and 90 amps, is that starting to be too much for my stock system? I'm thinking these class d amps will be much more kind than the 200ix.
Also, the m1000 and the kenwood have speaker level inputs. I realize this is a crappy way to hook the amp up, but I don't have rcas. Is there a difference between using the speaker level inputs that are built into the amp and a external unit if I buy the pdx-1.600(no internal speaker level inputs)?
This is my cheapo system. Once I get my new car I'll replace the head unit and all the speakers. Thanks!
