is it better to build a box based on manufacturer info,or is a bigger box bigger sound ? Also how do you know what is too big? What's the limits?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Lots of testing.. Way to many variables to just ask that question... Manu. ( spec ) boxes are set for an everyday listening with a good range.. So , like i said .. test and build, some subs are better in smaller enclosures, other s are better in large.. SPL is usually a bigger box and alot of port..

Oh yea.. search ftw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I found smaller boxes with bigger ports are the key....My three year of all first place wins several world and multiple state records is the proof FTW...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

exacltly what I'm saying...for everyday driving, Larger boxes are usually the key in most apps. But for SPL Small boxes are usually better suited for high numbers. And Tons of port area is a key as well.

Hmm... I guess it depends .. Im starting dbdrag next season with either fi or atomic , but for the NON spl subs i have now ( w7, re sx ) ive been a bit louder with larger boxes w bigger ports.. Around 3^ft per 12 and around 48-60^in of port opposed to spec boxes around 1.8 and 24-30 ^inches and same sized pressure enclosures w around 50-60^in of port

I am running 2 8" mtx XS terminators with a 250 watt alpine

" " " " 10" ROKS punck XLC with a n 800 watt mono pioneer

8'2 are in a .50^3

10's are injust over a foot ^3

this is for each woofer and the box is devided but they are both seale enclosures of 3/4" mdf

actually for SPL building a smaller "Pressure Style" box ususally adds a few tenths or so. My RL-ps are louder on the mic in 1.5 a piece rather than 2 a piece.
Assuming the smaller enclosures are used to get the air out faster and through a big port makes sense.. Is there a basic rule of thumb that you go by as far as tuning, port area, and size as a reference to start?
