alrite guys.... i'm new to car audio and wanted some input from the Pros on here. Ive got a 97 cobra, and after throwing a ton of money under the hood i decided to get a sound system. i started out with a jl 13w3 and RF 400/2 amp... that wasnt loud so i upgraded to a 13w7 w/ 1000/1 amp and 1/0 wiring all around. one morning it starts sounding horrible so i check it out and the box is cracked (the box was made for the 13w3 and double faced for the w7).

now i'm gonna upgrade it again. i'm gonna have them take out the back seat, put in another 13w7 and 1000/1 with a huge box facing toward the front of the car, optima yellow top battery, and RFC10HB cap. what do you guys think???

well if u go with a bigger system u will add weigh to ya ride .. so im not sure if thats what ya want.. try to get away from that cap and get a better battery for upfront if u have not allready.. And as far as jl goes there is better stuff out there for less..

Although you are totally within your rights to use JL, you are paying a high price that isn't really necessary. Many other brands out there are close to (and yes, I know I said close to) the quality of JL, but at a much more attainable price.

Also, as above, ditch the cap and upgrade Big 3.

i want the best of both worlds..... the shop is really pushing for this cap though.... are there any advantages to having one??? i know they are pretty much universally despised on here, but would it really be the same as throwing money in the trash can???

No cap, Big 3. Also wouldn't spend what a shop is gonna charge for another 13w7 and 1000/1 amp. You can probably fine both in the classifieds here for 1/3 to 1/2 of what the shop is pricing them to you.

they are charging me 500 for the w7 and 700 for the 1000/1, matching what i paid online for my first set. i don't mind spending a little extra on the other end. i want a high quality install with high quality components. i don't have enough time to learn how to build my own box and all that and understand that you gotta 'pay to play'. can someone explain why the capacitor is useless though?? i always wondered why almost everyone is so quick to dismiss them.

DUDE!!! Ditch the whole lot. Start fresh with a few 12" Mag v4's, they only need 1 cubic foot per sub and have a 4.75" mounting depth saving you room and weight in that beast of a car. On the upside they drop like 15"s and can handle 1000 watts each. Plus they can get super loud with a superbly clean sound using any genre of music. TRUST Mag v4 is the way to go. U got a beast of a car use a beastly sub to go with it. Here is a link so u can check them out and edumacate uself DAWG! http://stereointegrity.com/mag.php
