About that "Conflict of interest" thing with your employer

What you do on your time is none of your employers business //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
Yup, except that's not how it works. If it was, they wouldn't be allowed to piss test you either.

You're screwed. They have every right to fire you. Have fun on the job hunt.

seems you dont know anything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

alll you would have to do is PROVE in court with documentation that you were doing it first AND that your employer was not.

Ever hear of a term at-will state. It means an employer in that state can let a worker go for absolutely any reason other than discrimination. If the employer feels the employee maintaining a business that cuts into their profits is unnacceptable that is not exactly discrimation. He is screwed.

So ive been building boxes on and off for a while, mostly sealed ones. But im pretty decent at it now and have been using it to make extra $ on the side and such. Now at work theyve decided they want to start building boxes, which wasnt previously offered until now. I know they have a conflict of interest thing in my employment contract which says if i offer any services that are done by the company i can be fired. Considering ive been building them for 6 months or so, and now they wanna start doing it, what can i do about that?

Keep your mouth shut at work and don't tell ayone you're doing on the side.

They'll never know. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.

dont offer it to customers while you are working....
i second this. i don't mind my employees doing work for friends or getting their own business, matter-of-fact I encourage them. The conflict of interest is when they think it is okay to steal my customers. Sent a couple to jail b/c it's stealing money. you're employer has not need nor right to know what you do on your own time. if you're using their time at work that they are paying you for, that is the conflict. if i were you i'd file with the Secretary of State to get an LLC started so if you are fired for this, you'll be able to easily start something up on your own. plus you'll be able to lower your cost of materials.

its funny hearing the people replies here about going to court and other crap.....hahahahaha

it is an employee.. they are his employer... if he doesnt like it then he can say BYE BYE!!

its that simple... what he does in his own time and out of his own place is his own business..

but to sit there and think he's got the monopoly on that... he is SADLY MISTAKEN !!!!

Personally like I said, if he keeps his mouth shut about his side job he'll be fine.

No harm, no foul. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
