About that "Conflict of interest" thing with your employer

So ive been building boxes on and off for a while, mostly sealed ones. But im pretty decent at it now and have been using it to make extra $ on the side and such. Now at work theyve decided they want to start building boxes, which wasnt previously offered until now. I know they have a conflict of interest thing in my employment contract which says if i offer any services that are done by the company i can be fired. Considering ive been building them for 6 months or so, and now they wanna start doing it, what can i do about that?

They prolly heard you were building boxes so thats why they started offerin those services. They wanna make the money and pay you your regular hourly wage to do it.

My brother, I assure you my employer would feel otherwise. In fact, I know they do, because they actually say that I can't be "gainfully employed" by anybody else. In essence, my intellectual property is their property. All of it. And if I get in trouble outside of work, I'm equally screwed.

So it is their business...

Same way here. But the issue is that he has been building boxes prior to his employer now wanting to offer these services. Like stated before, sounds like his employer is aware of his box building and now wants to use it to their advantage. I would definitely bring it up to the boss or whoever about getting a little more money for designing and building boxes.
