? about inverted subs

It will make your subs hit deeper, lose a little punchiness, and have less power handling.
No, no, and no. If anything a minuscule increase in power handling, if said subs were in a sealed enclosure, due to increased cooling.

I had 2 memphis m3's on 1,000 watts and I could tell a significant diff. in the way they sounded inverted.

Placebo effect or mechanical noise?

I actually over excurted them and the spider separated from the basket.

Improper use of equipment, not due to inverted mounting. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Be careful they're easier to overpower id you fad them in a proper box before
...

I had 2 Memphis M3124d's (400rms) on a memphis pr1000.1 (1000rms)

I had them in about 3 cubes under the back seat of my Silverado SS.

They played fine while mounted traditionally, but I wanted to try them inverted.

After doing so, I noticed a much deeper sound and more output altogether. After doing so, it was not long before the spiders came loose.

You may attribute that to the fact that it was very cold and the glue hardened, but those subs were moving considerably more once inverted.

I pay close attention to these little details, which is why I confidently post them up.

EDIT and I really didn't notice any mechanical noise unless I put my ear right up to the sub.

M3 are really good woofs IMO..Just don't overpower them in too big a box

Depending on the driver and the alignment, simply inverting them could make a noticeable difference in low frequency extension.

The rear of the driver could occupy 0.10-0.30 cubic feet and, especially in enclosures with small volumes, this could make a big difference in its alignment. Since this is one way of lowering the Qtc of the alignment, you can expect a couple of possibilities:

1) Greater low frequency extension

2) Increased efficiency

3) Increased excursion

These are only realized if the change in alignment is great enough to warrant it, so the volume of the enclosures and the volume the driver's rear displaces are both important details.

The only down fall to inverting your subs is that the motor is not going to get as much air flow to keep its self cool when monted on the outside of the box. The sound pressure inside a sealed or ported box is what cools your subs when they move. Also you wont hear any motor noises seeing that subwoofer motor should'nt make any noise when its moving in the first place and if it does its blown.

I guess SPL cars don't need A/C

Why am I wrong ?

This really depends on the method of cooling the manufacturer uses. But most of the time outside the box, the cooling vents are drawing cooler air than they would in an enclosure. A lot bigger volume of air outside the enclosure than in.

Not true at all , I have personally heard mechanical noise from some of the most sought after subwoofers in the business. All though the mechanical noise was slight on most of them. It was still there, and they were bnib. Coils checked out fine. No physical scraping or touching at all. 3 of the same prominent drivers all made the same exact noise. 2 of the same drivers from a different company....... noise. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
