A real noob question

I am just gearing up to buy my first stereo system ever. My sub is a Cerwin Vega stroker competition with 4000Wmax and 2000W RMS and I am lookin for an amp now. Here's my big noob question:

What are Ohms in terms of car stereos and how do they work in the subwoofer-to-amplifier relationship?

Wow, Ohms load on a sub makes the load for an amp that accepts that load. Kinda fancy sub for a first...

essentially, ohms are levels of resistance in electrical currents. the lower the current the more watts that can be produced but the increase in strain on your electrical system. the stroker is dual voice coil (2 ohms) so you can wire it in either 4 ohms or 1 ohm. first make sure your amp can take 1 ohm. if it can this setup will give you more watts to the sub but take a larger toll on your electrical system

OK I found a good Kicker amp that can handle 1 to 4 ohms. The speaker I'm gettn is described as "Stroker 15" Dual 2 ohm Voice Coil Subwoofer " What level of ohms would be best to get the best sound without sacrificing the lifespan of the sub?

atleast you asked first..............went to my local shop yesterday and had a guy in there that hooked up a jl 1000/1 to only 1 vc on a MOJO...needless to say that that MOJO's vc is fried

That actually rounds up other noob questions roamin around my mind. What does it mean when an amp is 1000/1 as opposed to 1000W. Also, what is a MOJO and a vc? I thank yall for putting up with me. I'm sure I let off a right powerful stink of noob.

memphis mojo= memphis's spl subs, i have one for sale 15" quad 1ohm

MOJO is a type of subwoofer, made by Memphis car audio.

JL 1000/1 is a JL amp that produces 1000 watts at 1 channel. (opposed to 2 or 4 channel amps)

VC is a voicecoil, the resistance of the VC results in the ohms.

spend some time absorbing all the info from this forum as well as this site http://www.bcae1.com/

and you will know more then most people will ever know about car audio.
