A question for you

Its ohms law.

2 4 ohm resistors wires in series gives an eight ohm load. 2 4 ohm resitors in parallel show a two ohm load.

You will learn alot of shops lie to you to sell you something.

ahhh lol alright since my sub is a 4ohm sub why cant i use a 4ohm amp just incase i may have mislead you on the sub i acually have here is a link to the subwoofer http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4281_Alpine+SWR-1242D+-TYPE+R-.html . and also any other suggestions on the best amp for this sub. i should leave this to the pros but apparently the "pro" that runs the audio shop in my town doesnt know what hes talking about if what you are telling me is true
Your sub is DVC. Which means there are 2 of them.

2x4 = 8 ohms

4/2= 2 ohms

You can't wire 2 4 ohm VC's to a 4 ohm load. Your local pro is retarded.

The JL audio is doing 500watts at 4ohms and according to the other guy my sub cant be wired to 4ohms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif . so basically this is confusing and im getting the hint i should sell my sub and current amp and give up on car audio....

1. you are a noob.

2. the workers at the store you went to were noobs.

3. the guy on youtube is a noob.

What everyone has said is correct. If you don't want to listen, you can go blow your sub and we can laugh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

That amp does 350RMS, so THAT would be underpowering. But not only that, you wouldnt' be able to use it in the first place since it bridges to 4ohms and your sub can only run at 2 or 8.

No, underpowering does not hurt subs at all. What hurts it is when you buy a low powered amp and try to make up for your underpowering by turning up your gains too high. Use a DMM to set your gains correctly.

Type R's will take 1000 easy if you know what you're doing. ie, correct box size, correct gain settings, etc.

But since you dont know what you're doing, get a 500 watt monoblock and run it off that. You need 500 watts at 2ohms.

slash series amps give power @ 1.5-4 ohm. Its kinda a cool thing JL has. PG also has the same technology.

It's a mono amp. There is no bridging.

500 watts rms Rated Power: 500 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm - 4 ohm (11V-14.5V)

That means it will do 500 watts RMS from 1.5 ohm to 4 ohm regardless.

Your sub has a pair of 4 ohm voice coils. You can use a 2 channel amp and wire each coil to one channel. That's not the best method. To use a mono amp, you have to either wire the pair of coils on the subwoofer together (parallel bridging) for a 2 ohm load or in a series for an 8 ohm load. Therefore, you either need a mono amp that is stable at 2ohms and puts out somewhere near the sub's RMS power handling or a mono amp that puts out somewhere near twice the sub's RMS power handling at 4 ohms (the 8 ohm series load will cause the amp to put out about 1/2 of the 4 ohm rating).

ok ok ok maybe im starting to get this if im right then my sub is currently running at 2ohms on the amp i got says 600 @ 2ohms x 1 channel http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_56_Audiobahn+A1300HCT.html. so if i havnt already made a mistake im actually currently over powering the sub if im correct?
Yes and no. In theory, yes. But the audiobling amp is overrated. Your probably seeing 400w RMS if that.

Yes....even tho i dont think Audiobahn does Rated power...that amp works for that sub at 2 ohms......some of the other members may be able to clarify how much that amps actually puts out.

hmm ok ok well to be completly honest i have no clue how my sub is wired i bought it from a guy of craigs list. So idk how its wired how could i tell if its at 2 or 8ohms?
