A question for you

So i have a 4ohm dual voice coil alpine Type R. It handels 500RMS. The amp i currently have is underpowering the sub. I talked to a guy at a audio place in my town he tells me its harmful if you underpower the sub b/c it causes distortion and what not. I asked him if he had any amps that can feed my sub the needed power he showed me this one. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11752_Crunch+P1400.2.html he said it could be briged to produce 700rms at 4ohms. So basically my question is since this is producing more RMS than my sub is rated at is it going to harm my sub and if it is is there any way i can tweak the amp so it doesnt give it to much power?

1. under powering does not hurt it...turning the gain all the way up to were it distorts hurts it

2. the amp is rated at 350 rms 700 peak... so you will still be underpowering it

3. type r's can safely take 800-1000 rms

Every time you turn your stereo down you're underpowering your sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Also, you can't wire that sub to 4 ohms for bridging so it doesn't matter anyway.

if you bridge the amp it produces 700RMS thats 200 above the 500 RMS the sub is rated at so really i dont see how thats still under powering the sub..... And i as for they take 800/1000 RMS safely thats debatable alot of people say they do alot say they dont theres a video of youtube of a guy feeding his Type R 700rms for about 2 mins straight and it fried the voice coils...

They only people that say they can't are the people that don't know what they're doing. The guy that blew the Type R free air was messaging me for 2 weeks straight about how to set gains and wire his amps. He didn't understand impedance-rise nor clipping. Get educated.

The 700 watts rms on that amp is overrated. I'm not sure if it's a peak rating, but I can tell you 700 watts rms is incorrect.

1.) Its 700w PEAK

2.) No its not. Skip01 has 4 type R 10" off 2 AudioQue 2200d's @ .5ohm(Over 1100w RMS)

3.) He was clipping the amp probably

4.) Why ask us questions then tell us we are wrong?

5.) Please tell me how your making your DVC4 ohm sub show a 4ohm load.

The sub being able to take power vs some one who doesnt know how to set up their equipment is an unfair example.

And again, with the sub you have, there is no way for you to bridge that amp at 4 ohms. That amp isn't 2 ohm stable bridged and 8 ohm would defeat the purpose of bridging.

i never said you was wrong i said the subs handling 1000 rms was debatable and i said i dont see how its still underpowering the sub. neiter of the things i said say your wrong. but i will say your wrong now b/c you said i called you wrong about the other stuff..

It was explained that the power of that amp is not 700w RMS, it is 700w Peak. The amp is 350w RMS, but you keep telling us it is 700w RMS. The amp is also useless to you, as you have a DVC4 sub. You need a 500w Mono block that puts out power at 2ohm. I know they are expensive and people hate JL, but how about a JL 500/1. They can be picked up used for a decent price.

ahhh lol alright since my sub is a 4ohm sub why cant i use a 4ohm amp just incase i may have mislead you on the sub i acually have here is a link to the subwoofer http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4281_Alpine+SWR-1242D+-TYPE+R-.html . and also any other suggestions on the best amp for this sub. i should leave this to the pros but apparently the "pro" that runs the audio shop in my town doesnt know what hes talking about if what you are telling me is true
