A question aboout power, please help?

My friend and I are argueing about something and I am sure you guys can help us settle it. He says that if he puts 12 12 inch sony xplodes in his chevy s10 truck and he thinks that all he will need is extra batterys. He doesnt think he need s abetter alternator. I say he needs to upgrade it , what do you guys think?

uhhh, get him on here so we can get more details. I dont know much abotu any tekhnique amps but i dont think any sony sub would handle 4of em each.

He says he is going to put as many subs as possible in the bed of his truck. we just estimated that it would be 12 of them. He was running 2 of them of one tek 2000 watt amp. He was giving 2 12inch subs 1000 watts each. And just like I old him about 2 months later one of them blew so now he wants to fill his truck with as many 12 inch Xplodes as possible.

For 12 subs, even if theyre the cheaper 300 wRMS models, you would still need 3600 wattsRMS to power them properly. I dont know of any stock alternators that can handle that much power. He might want to add another battery too. And I dont care what kind of subs they are, 12 12" subs will get loud.

I think your friend is just big talk though. He obviously doesnt have the experience needed to know what kind of equipment to use, let along wire 12 subwoofers to 8 amplifiers, or even build an enclosure for all of them. I personally think he would need a new altenator for 8 amps, but i really don't know any specs on the amps. is 1000w the RMS?

He just ordered 12 of them offline, I told him he can get so much better subs. I myself own 2 type Rs but thinks his sonys are better. He also says that he knows a guy that will make the box.

I am the so caLLED FRIEND HE talks about... so lets get things right here, I have the fiberglass mold of twelve sony subs lined in my bed, i have the tek amps already, i bought 8 of them and they do run on the stock alternator because i tried it already... " dont always believe what stereo shops tell u casue most of the time its bullsh*t" yea so if u dont believe it then dont just dont hate....

I highly doubt EIGHT of those amps will run fine without any upgrades. I call BS on you. How did you wire these up? Explain that in detail buddy...

And also, how do you plan on wiring 12 subs to 8 amps? If this is in fact a true story, then you should have bought 6 amps, one amp per pair of subs...

lol thats pretty funny. Yes i can assure you we all know what "bridging" is. and yes, you would be better off buying mono amps so you can run them at a lower ohm. and 8 amps for 12 subs? wtf? how r u gonna get equal power to all of them?
