The honest trooth is most of our generation and the people on this site will never be able to afford a retirement (at least how we know it today). We have neither the finacial acumen or budgeting rigor to invest in long-term strategies for creating wealth.

Combined with lower market returns and higher expected future volatility in asset markets and you have a much more difficult proposition.

I would expect to maintain an average lifestlyle for retirement at 55-60 in 2040+ an individual will need to save $2.5mm +/- $1mm depending upon inflation.
