a guestion for a friend

You don't have to have an alt that produces enough amperage to completely match your current draw...a 95A alt can likely handle 2k rms or more, as long as you have battery support. Yea you get voltage drops...but to keep voltage at 14+ running 1-2k isn't necessary, its mainly only a problem if you're dropping below 12

1200 rms is getting high for 4 gauge, over that you definitely might as well get 0

 
he's not going to need to spend the money on a bigger alt just for one AQ1200.
Agreed , I have a few close friends that run the AQ1200 and all they have done is a bigger battery and the Big 3 . Two of the cars in which only have 80 amp alt's . Very little dimming and DMM shows voltage dropping to 12.2-3 at full tilt .. Pretty efficient amps if you ask me .
