A day with my Sundowns

3db = maximum gain by doubling power (after power compression/etc it will be less) and technically twice the acoustic power

6db - 10db = twice as loud to the ear (depends on frequency, etc)

You probably noticed a change in "sound quality" because of the increased power which provides a slight but not overbearing increase in output. Most people perceive changes in volume levels as "sounding better". If it snaps a little harder on a fast punchy bass lines most people would describe it as being more "crisp" sounding, for example.

You would most likely notice at least a 1 - 2 dB gain on an SPL meter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Which is quite a bit, but not a tremendous amount to you ears.
