this is the main car audio reseller in aus, and im looking for a cheap amp to get a little more out of the 6x9's, ive got 2 4"'s as well but dont necersarily need to hook them up.

May add a sub at some point but not in the forseeable future.

i was thinking of the Boss 1000w budget amp, ive got a Boss hu :-S and the 6x9's are Pioneer 240W 3way... will an amp boost sound quality and make them kick abit harder?

they also have an "avalanche" 500W amp for $99 aus... im sure its shit haha, but considering im not powering that much off it would it be okay?

Thank you.

EDIT: this probably should have gone in the AMP section, my appologies, but it is slightly install related as well.

First off, your gonna want to stay away from Boss audio, unless you get their stuff for free. For your 6X9's try this amp out: http://www.strathfield.com.au/ViewProduct.asp?ProdID=473

You need a two channel amp for the rears, or if your going to do fronts and rears get a four channel. Don't waste your time or money on cheap products, you'll only regret it in the future.

Adding an amp to power your rears is going to give you a way different sound than before with just the HU powering them. Higher peak and RMS power from the amp = more sound and better tonal signatures.

Great thanks alot, I do regret getting the Boss HU now, however it was very cheap for the features I was looking for. I am going overseas next yr so this is just a temporary set up, I will upgrade my HU when I get back.

As for the amp, ive got the 2 6x9's in the back parcel tray and the 4" speakers in the dash, should i get a 4channel amp to push the 4"'s as well? or wont they benefit that much from the extra power?

Depends on what they can handle. If they're not bery high rated I wouldnt bother, just use the HU to power them. If you really feel the need, then go for it, like I said before, speakers sound different when more power is applied to them.

Personaly though, if I felt my head unit was up to the task, I wouldn't worry too much about powering the fronts off of an amp, just save you money for upgrading the HU!

Amping your rear speakers is pretty much the wrong direction to go. Upgrade the fronts and amp those instead. Boston Acoustics makes an excellent 4" coaxial that'll handle a 50 watt amp nicely.

he's just looking for more bump out of the rears. He already has the fronts installed.
Exactly, I have 2 x 100W 4" Pioneer's in the front dash

and 2x 240W 6x9 Pioneers in the parcel tray, the 4"s go okay, but i was thinking if there was some way of configuring the 6x9's (either through the amp or ? something else) to play the lower end of the scale, and give them more power to handle it, and have the 4"'s play the high end (act abit more like tweeters)... as im sure the 6x9's can kick far harder than the 4"'s.

But im not sure if the AMP's have inbuilt EQ's or not, the HU eq seems as though configuring it for something like this would be near imposible.
