Vacuum bagging door panels today. There are several reasons for vacuum bagging. When forming around curves it keeps steady pressure on the part and reduces the chance of the carbon fiber pulling away and lumps forming. It pulls the extra resin out and makes the part stronger.
Used a cheap 3 mil drop cloth from home depot to make the bag.
Peel ply. It has perferations to let resin bleed through. When vacuum is pulled it leaves just the right amount of resin on part. Also it is non stick so it is actually touching the carbon fiber. Very cheap like 2.50 a yard.
Cheap polyester batting from walmart. This goes between peel ply and bag for vacuum. Absorbs extra resin and allows air to be pulled across entire part.
Looking for more strength from my original door panels so I am laminating.
Peel ply
Starting to pull vacuum. Pump I used is a hvac pump from harbor freight.
Have plenty of duct tape on hand there are going to be leaks.
