99 Tacoma rebuild RD audio

The rear isn't fully boxed for a reason. It's built that way to collapse and soften the blow if you ever get rear ended. Now that you stiffened it up you're gonna feel the blow much more in the drivers seat and possibly create more injury.
Nice install.
if someone rear ends him there is a high chance that they will go under him so I dont think he will have to worry as much.

Kenny, I'll put it out there just for the sake of it.

I'm a dumbass, and I doubt I could do too much, but if you need help with her on a Sunday or Monday let me know that's my two days off.

Back to installing something in the TC, w00t

And hurry up man, Jesus

Thanks man, but I think I would be more worried about the 16 10's and the 2000 lbs in the bed coming at me if I was rear ended.

Some carbon fiber how to's I have learned.

A scale is a must. Once you have cut your cloth to fit weigh it and use grams much easier to convert than ounces. The reason for weighing is to get the proper amount of epoxy to use. I used 50% resin to cloth.

Putting epoxy resin is much slower than fiberglass resin, you can't mix it hotter to speed up cure and outside temp can increase the cure time. Count on a minimum of 12 hours per coat.

Before laying the cloth apply your resin on the piece using a paintbrush. Next lay the cloth and I used a 4" foam roller to press the cloth down. The roller will also spread the carbon fibers out to give better coverage.

In about 2 hours you can put 2nd coat of resin down then let sit overnight for all other coats. My 1st coat(wet out coat) was 210 grams next I reduced to 150 grams. All final coats will be 120 grams and these are to give the usual 3d look.

My weight measurements are in divisions of 3 because I am using is a 2 to 1 resin which makes it easier to do the math.

Mistakes I made the 1st time. Epoxy does not stick to masking tape so I decided to use it to contain the resin within the box, the problem it causes is that it makes ridges at the tape that needs to be sanded down then you have to polish the crap out of it to put the next layer.

I used 210 grams of resin on 2nd coat way to much since I had already wet out the fiber.

Sometime this week I will be vacuum bagging the door panels. I will have pictures for this since it is more complicated.

Without a layer of resin carbon fiber looks more like snake skin

Now it is looking more like carbon fiber is supposed too.

Here you can see the difference in the same pic

so this box is going to be 100% carbon fiber not wood? also how much is that carbon fiber and epoxy i wouldnt mind givving it a try
Wood frame, fiberglass, and carbon fiber. Carbon fiber averages about $40 a yard and resin is @ $100 for a gallon and a half. The resin goes a long ways and I think I bought way too much.

lookin good captain looking good would love to give it a try on one of my boxes but hell i got to do my first resin box first lol but looking good man can't wait to see the doors

Looks good! lots of hard work by Kenny on this one.
Now all you need is some louie vaton interior.

Were going to have some SICK rides out there in 2009.
Once my car is done it should be nice! You said Mayfields did your truck and is doing Kenny's truck. Maybe you can talk to them about getting my front and rear bumpers painted black //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif :D
