99 Ram Quad setup ??

OK, I am finally sick of mediocre sound in my 99 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Pickup. I am looking to upgrade the sound, and in the process of getting the pieces together. Thought I would ask for your input before I final everything and put it together.

HU- Alpine 9886

Amp - Alpine PDX 150.4

Fronts - Alpine SPR69, or SPR 17S

Rear - Alpine SPS 600

Sub - Alpine SWS 12" or 10" in custom box.

So how does this all look? I would like to stick to all one company as much as possible, and I love the looks of the 9886, and it seems decent. I already have the SPR69, and SPS 600, but wouldn't be upset over sending the 6x9s back and getting the 6.5" components if they are THAT MUCH BETTER. I mean night and day, not just sorta better.

As for the sub, I need a shallower mount that will fit under the rear seat, and don't need huge sound and power. Was going to go go 10", but the 12" has a better low response. they both require 100-500 watts RMS.

As for the amp, will it power the fronts all right, as well as the SWS Sub? ANy highly better recommendations? I am getting everything off Ebay, as I don't know plan on keeping the truck much longer than the upcoming summer.

SO what does everyone think? would this all sound good, any problems, concerns, or is it all good in the neighborhood?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

All subwoofers have basically the same frequency response; 12” subs do not play lower than 10” (common myth)

You do not have the air space for a 12” sub under the seat of that truck anyway

Even with a 10” your pushen it for space, a good box is very difficult for under those seats

For the front speakers: 6x9’s would have more volume, a components set would be cleaner and image better with proper tweeter placement

If you post your budget, I am sure a lot of us on here could help you revamp that system up there.... The system you have up there will be mediocre at best and the highs will be harsh for sure.. Give us your budget and we will see what we can do with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Thank you for the input. I am not too worried about pure sound clarity and clearness in this truck. I also don't feel like messing with tweeter placement in this truck. I will mess with components if everyone tells me to just do it and quit being stubborn. Not looking for amazing SQ, just decently better than stock. Truck isn't worth going too deep in the audio area. Yet.

Budget would be about $300-$400. If I send the amp and 6x9s back, budget would be $600. Like I said, I already have the 6X9s, the sps-600, and also a RF Power T400.4 amp. I also have a Legacy Series 2 LA220 amp lying around. Don't need the alpine HU, I already have an OK one, just looking at an upgrade as a nice, but not needed upgrade. I have no problem sending the 6X9s back, but would prefer not too if it can be helped. Kind of complicated, but hopefully I can get some help off that. I'll build my own sub box, and do my own install.

I am not looking to rattle my truck apart, or get super loud. just decently loud so that I know its there. Don't need for people a block away to know it though. If you get my meaning.

OK, what if I kept the sps-600c in the back, and put a set ofID CTX65cs in the front, with a SWS-10 sub in the back. Keep my HU, or pick up an Alpine 9886 on the cheap. I could keep the RF T400.4 I already got.

That would put a dang good ( according to this board) front stage, decent fill, decent sub. Should be able to power it with the HU for rear, and the Amp for fronts, and sub. and at only approximately $200 of the proposed $300-400 budget.

I am really looking at a decent component instead of a less than decent 6x9, as I think I have blown both 6x9s on less than RMS power. approximately 65-75 watts on a 110 RMS rating. What gives there.

So what do you guys think of this set up? better, about equal, or can I do even better.

Curious how the sub box will be? You said just one 10" now, right? Will it be under the rear seat, sealed, ported, downfiring, etc??

I have a 99 QC also and am thinking of getting one 10 but just not sure what would be best.

Thanks.

FOr right now, the sub will be going in the middle, in front of the rear seats, behind the center arm rest. I will eventually build a box for under the rear seat, one side. As you know, the floor back there is crazy sloped, so I want to make sure I use all available space when I build the box. It will be sealed, up firing, and I will leave the back seat up most of the time.

For my titan I am having a ported box with some RE SR 10s built for under the seat. The mounting on those 10s are only 5.25 inches. I just though I would through that out there.

Really, I will have to look into that. Thanks for the input. I am straying away from the SWS-10 at the moment.

I have seen RE mentioned before on here.

What is their website? DO they have to be ported?

My local dealer pushes Rockford Fosgate so I was planning on going with them. I know they aren't top of the line but I honestly just want a nice clean, tight bass. I don't want a rumbling type bass.

Reaudio.com.......No they don't have to be ported but I wanted a ported set-up and the guy who is making my box was able to do me one ported for the RE SR subs. I use to have JL 10w3v3s under my rear seat but I sold that set up and now getting the RE set up.

This new set up should be nice because I will be pushing both SR subs with a sundown 1000D.

Pretty sure I am leaning towards the RE SR10, but now I just need to figure out the amp, and ID vs. Morel. I'm leaning towards the ID, as I've heard a good great deal about them, not so much about the morel, but all good in all cases. plus the Morels are $100 more. not ready for that step yet.

I PMed you some pics of the box that I am having made for a pair of SRs.
