99 Ford Explorer -- Speakers / Amp Questions

Hi so I have a 99 Ford Explorer (4dr) and it has stock audio equipment w/ a 1cd player (no mach--I'm pretty sure). I'm looking to upgrade my speakers from the crappy (stock) ones I have now to a powered setup.

After searching the forums and scouring the internet for a bit I ended up on

RE Audio 57FR- 5x7" speakers.

or

Alpine SPR-57C 5x7 speakers

According to Sonicelectronix:

The Alpines WILL fit my car.

The REs WONT.

Crutchfield Says:

The Alpine WONT fit my car

So...

1)Will these alpines/RE (or other 5x7's) fit my car?

Now shopping for amps, I'm on a budget (who isn't now-a-days?) and the

Hifonics HFi55.4 caught my attention as a decent low-price amp.

2) Will this amp + a combination of 2 sets of either of the above speakers work together?

3) 4ohms or 2ohms?

And finally, if the 5x7s do not fit in my car, does anybody have any good 6x8" suggestions on a similar level to these 5x7s?

Thanks!

A friend I saw at the gym said I would have to re-drill holes to fit the 5x7s, is that true? And what would 2 sets of the REs (4ohms) wire down to? is 2ohms possible so I can get the most out of the amp?

Thanks for help -- I'm anxious and pretty much ready to pull the trigger so I can finally enjoy music like I've wanted to for a while now.

Get 4 Selenium 6w4ps, run one in each door. They are 6" speakers, so just make a quick adapter out of 1/2" MDF. Then get a small 4ch and bridge it. Then get a pair of tweeters and run them off the HU with bassblockers. The mids will get way loud, but still have a great clean sound with a bunch of midbass. I went from Hertz HSK165s to the Selenium 6s and I was much happier.

4 of these, bridged.

This amp bridged on the 4 mids.

A pair of these tweeters, ran off the headunit.

I grabbed a set of those RE's... Hope that they only need a spacer at most, but will let you know after I install them.

Edit: Got them in tonight. They look... ok. Not what they use to be. I hope they sound alright. Tempted use my old cdt x-overs and tweets.

Edit:

They seemed to fit just fine with the sound deadener that was there from previous install. Never got to finish cuz I had some family business and when I went back someone had broken in and stolen the one speaker that was there and my tool kit. It was all hidden under a jacket, but the 5" cracked window was enough for someone to risk doing time without knowing what was in there. What kind of ****** crack head steals one speaker. Well that settles it, I'm gettin something else for the doors. Mid bass speakers to use my cdt tweats x overs.
