9887 vs avic f700bt

Okay so, currently I have the avic d3 and it's a pretty decent headunit, but I'm selling it. Now I'm debating, should I buy the 9887 or the f700bt. I never really used the nav in the d3 or watched movies, but that's because i didn't end up liking having to use the discs. I think I might use the f700 nav because they added text to speech and it's hdd based, and I will be moving to a differnt city for school in 2 months, and it might come in useful?

On the other hand, I really want to run active. I like the 9887, but I don't like that the buttons are blue and afaik can't be changed.

I could also get the f700bt and then add an external active x over, but i don't know how that would sound ( something like the memphis 16-x03??)

Opinions????

Also, any reasons to pick the pioneer 7900 or w/e over the 9887 because I really don't like the one button for all aproach, but I'd be open to the pioneer if it is really a better deal than the alpine.

I have the Pioneer F90BT. Right now there are some problems and Pioneer is working on an update to solve issues like slow startup time, freezes, glitches, etc. I have no major issues with mine and love it. I don't know a whole lot about the 9887 but a friend has the 86 and loves it. For more F series stuff go check out avic411 and they can help you out.

How hard is it to set crossover points on it and such. Is it a pain??? What about the iPod control. Say I have 3000 songs, is it going to take a long time to get to the song I want???

Setting the crossovers and such is really easy. Actually, navigating all the menus is, since theres a return and escape button on the deck. I wouldnt imagine it would be too tough to get through that many songs but you might be spinning the wheel for a while. You can basically go through the music just like on the ipod.

Yeah, but does it go faster as you continue to spin... like on an iPod as you keep spinning the speed goes up so you can get to songs faster... anyway to just scroll through letters or somethig???

you can hit the radio presets buttons and it jumps to different letters in the list, menu is just like ipod.

Haven't messed with searching yet, i think there's a way to search too if I recall.

I havent used the search feature with an ipod, but with a regular mp3, you hit the search button, select file or folder and then scroll through the list and pick what you want.

I saw my friend using his ipod with his 9886 and it looked similar to what I described above ^^^

Yeah, kinda described that wrong. Browsing files is JUST like on an ipod interface except using the headunit's buttions and volume knob.

I was referring to searching for a particular letter because when you have ton of mp3's it takes forever. When in browsing mode like that you can hit the radio preset buttons to jump to different letters in the list.

I think there might be a way to search by like a name but i'm not sure.
