9835 vs 9855

I have no idea why you're hearing a difference. However, as far as quality...I'm sure it's declined some. Manufacturing is now in China instead of Japan. But, I think Alpine's quality compared to the products of other manufacturers today is at least comparable if not better than most. Notable exception being the first batch of 9855s.

hehehe agreed. I was soooo dissapointed when I went to our competitor, BB, and checked out the decks... Just tapping on the face plate would make the light output turn off, but the deck would continue to play... Maybe the new batch doesnt do this.

The current setup I have sounded simply amazing on the old 7850. At first the 9835 was ok at best, so I tuned the wazzoo out of it - spent about 6-8 hours playing with it (total time) and got it close to the 7850, but still couldn't simulate its sound. Perhaps my Orion 6.5 cobalts are starting to fatigue? They do have an UNGODLY amount of play time (800+hrs guessing) on them as I used them in my home system for good year and half before they went in my truck 1.5yrs ago...lol

I love my 9855.. and the glide touch is sweet once you have it in your car and play with it a bit. I hated it at the store when I was messing with it. Overall the deck sounds very nice, looks sweet, and is pretty easy to use.
