9835 vs. 8454

I currently have the Eclipse 8454 and I am thinking about getting a 9835 for mainly the iPod controll. I know eclispe has a iPod controll now but it sucks. Is there anything more I would gain going to alpine minus the iPod controll? What would I loose besides the 8v preout on the eclipse? Thanks

aside of the voltage, you are giving up finer output impedance as well as double the eq of the Alpine-

9835= 5 band peq total, but covers the sub range

8454= independent 5 band front chs PEQ, independent rear ch 5 band PEQ- but no sub freq eq

You would lose the 10 band parametric eq. Alpine only has a 5 band.

Well I just won a eBay auction for a 9835 with iPod adapter and sirius adapter for 350 so I think I am gonna sell the eclipse. The ipod connectivity is worth it in itself for me, plus I am glad I dont have to use that crappy I glide. If anyone wants a 8454 let me know.

I dont think I even care about the 10 band cause I am only running my front speakers... The only "Big" difference that the elclipse has going for it is the 8v pre out and 24bit DAC.

As far as sound quality.. yeah. I had a 9815 and it sounded great and to say the eclipse and alpine aren't in the same league is a dumb statement.

9835 has pathetic preouts. The 8454 has great preouts. 9835 has a 1bit converter. The 8454 has a 24bit converter. And when you point out the tuning abilities of the 8454 compared to the 9835 there really is NO comparison. Eclipse is hands down a superior head unit. You can call it a dumb statement all you want.........but its the truth.
