98 nissan altima dash lights out

hey guys i must say this is an awesome forum, very helpful and guys that are ready to give advice to those who lack some knowledge of the car audio world, way better than Usaci.

i have an issue with my dash lights being out. they have been out for some time now, it didn't go out till i put my system in and i have tried everything. changed the fuse check the wireing an i even pulled the head unit out.

some guy told me that it could be my illumination wire on the head unit that is touching something and that i should try looking at that and i was wondering what u guys thought.

i had a similar problem in an eclipse the illumination wire grounded or something and burnt out the switch on the column where u turn the lights on sounds very similar to my old eclipse

so it is repairable? all i need to do is buy a new switch ?
