98 Mercury Sable HU prob?

Is anyone familar with the stock HU for the 98 Mercury Sable, Here is the Prob with my wifes car: The radio does not pick up any stations,I have pulled the HU to make sure that the antenna is connected only to find that it does not have a standard coax cable,nor is there any spot for it? Do to the design of the system I cant just simply replace it with a after market HU. The Sables have all the Climate controls connected with the unit??? With an aftermarket HU theirs a panel that replaces the whole front assembly where all the switches are so that their still their with an opening for a standard din. I'm not to sure about the antenna, but I do know that it requires an integration kit which comes with the panel. It can be found on crutchfield and various other places, it runs about 50-60 dollars or so.

the brain for the factory headunit is located in the trunk on the driver side...

Look under the trunk liner, inside the trunk on the driver's side, directly under the antenna. You'll see a silver box mounted to the inside fender; the antenna plugs into the bottom of the silver box.

Yep - as is all the other wiring associated with the factory radio - power, ground, speaker wires, etc.
