97 Dodge Ram battery or alternator???

Crutchfield.com is telling me that I need a hi output alternator to do the audio install for my 97 Dodge Ram truck. However, a local electrical business told me that adding a second battery to the existing alternator (and running just the audio system on this second battery) will do the trick. Does anyone know for sure which way is going to give the most power to safely run basic electrical needs of truck plus audio system? (I'm installing 2 LANZAR amps which total 2000 watts. The alternator is 117 amps.)
