95' Nissan 240sx, setup & parts....

I have a 1995 Nissan 240sx and sound wasnt a focus to me until my OE equipement failed and a couple of good deals came my way. With that said I want to make the audio nice but am on a budget. I am into SQ, not boom/comp and I will be installing a carputer that I am building right now (only hold up is I dont have a screen yet)

The car has two rear deck mounted speakers, two door mounted speakers and two A-piller tweeter locations. I'm looking to maintain these locations for installation.

Here is the equipement I currently have:

Headunit: Pioneer DEH-8600MP

Front MIDS: MB Quart DSE-216 component set

Front HIGH: MB Quart DSE-216 component set

Front AMP:

Rear MIDS:

Rear HIGH:

Rear AMP:

Sub: Infinity 10.1 'Referance'

Sub AMP: MTX Thunder 2160

I was considering another MTX Thunder 2160 to power the front and rears and just getting some cheap or decent used rear coaxials for filler. The 2160's are old but I love them, it has been very reliable for me. The headunit is temporary and will be removed once the Carputer is installed, I am very happy with it and the tuning controls built in. Once the HU is removed I will probably have to add an external EQ to the system as I dont know how much control the PC's audio processor (SB Audigy2) will allow.

My friend has offered me a 400w RMS 2ch Kenwood amplifier (KENWOOD KAC7201) that doesn't currently power on. I am fairly capable with electronics repair so I'm going to attempt to resurrect it. I would think that would be a fairly capable amplifier for my front and rear speakers. That does raise the question (saying it will function), will 2ch be suffice or should I be looking for a proper 4ch amp? I have been told it doesnt matter but recently also been told 4ch is important for SQ.

Some have even said to ditch the rear fill and that haivng a decent front sound stage is all you need, any truth to this?

Thanks,

~Kris

I would put the amp on your front component set and run the rears off your HU.
Edit: I forgot you were putting in the carputer. You would probably need a 4ch in that case.
What would be the benifit of a 4ch amplifier over a high output 2ch amplifier to power the front and rear?

You cant run both fronts and rear off a two channel unless you wire them all together and you couldnt do any fading/balancing plus wierd impedences. With a four channel it would be 2ch for the front R & L and 2ch for rear R & L, or you can do what i did and bridge a four channel (or powerful 2ch stereo) for the front and no rear speakers at all.

That makes sense, didnt consider fade. I am leaning towards leaving on the fronts in as many are reccomending that. The whole, audio would come from up front in a concert thing and all...

Bah, get a 4 channell amp, dont get rear fill waste of money. Use the 4 channell and run your comps active, if you can sell those quarts and get better comp IMO
