just need to check this is right, as prev stated i have a Phoenix Gold ZPA 0.5 amp and it needs to see 8v at the amp, i have been told that as i have an epicenter then i dont need a line driver as the epicenter can produce upto 10v output, does anyone know if this is correct as the h/u alpine 9812rr will only be putting 4.5v max into epicenter so would it send out more v's, where if i used the linedriver, the epicenter would be getting upto 8/9v into it

Cheers J

You does your amp need to see 8 volts?
alright bud, its a Phoenix Gold ZPA 0.5 and it needs 8v to get most power from it, (according to their website and some other folks i've spoke to) and on the zpa amps there is no gains, lpf, hpf, etc

Cheers J

He's not full of it guys. The Zeropoint amps did not have a gain control. They had fixed input gain. They were meant to be run with the ZPA balanced line driver which had an input gain and put out 8V on the output. The point behind it was it was impossible to clip and was overbuilt/underrated like none other.

To answer your question, the Epicenter has adjustable input gain and output gain. It will effectively act like a line driver. Max output on the AudioControl gear is 9V so you can't just max the output voltage. It's a shame that you are using that amp on your subs. Any amp will sound fine on subs. That is one of the finest amps ever made and to use it on something less than a great set of comps is blasphemy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Congrats on having a great amp.

Cheers Helotaxi, the amounty of people that have been sayin why do i need 8v for the amp had me wondering if i really do need it!!

this is the set up i have just now but i do agree that it is wasted on the subs, so future plans do involve it running comps,

helotaxi, i dont think i can change the input voltage for the epicenter just the output voltage which i can change to 2.5v, 5v, 7.5v and 10v by moving jumpers in the epicenter,

at the moment i have :

alpine h/u (sub out) to linedriver (output gain adjusts signal from 0 to 20db, from 1 to 10 times input signal level!) to epicenter (jumpers at 7.5v) to amp (zpaxo x/over card installed running low pass) to 2 subs

i do think i still need the linedriver but am maybe getting confused now! i just dont want to blow things up,

Cheers J

Looking at the manual for the Epicenter, it would appear that the unit automatically sets the input gain ot give you the output voltage that the jumper is set for regarless of the input signal. That being the case, leave the output voltage jumper where it is and toss the linedriver. It's extraneous at this point. The Epicenter serves that function for you. Having it before the Epicenter would defeat its effect anyway.

BTW, unless you have the sub x-over in the HU set to its highest freq, you aren't going to get the max benefit from the Epicenter. It works by sampling the midbass in the input signal and generating the first subharmonic of the freqs in the signal and adding that to the output. If you limit the input freq to a range less than the sampling range, it will have more limited rage of effectiveness.

Once again, nice one bud, i hadnt thought of that, i'll tell you's what as well, on most other audio sites i struggle to get any answers from anyone but this one is totally different, long may it continue!!

Cheers J
